Samsung Invests In Fove Headset

Samsung Invests In Fove Headset

Consumer Electronics Jun 25,2015 0

Fove, the world's first eye-tracking virtual reality headset, has secured investment from Samsung Ventures. FOVE recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, to raise $250,000 to finalize its development process and start manufacturing. To date the campaign has raised $452,000 with a new community of 1351 backers. As the next step towards production, today’s investment from the Samsung ventures will bring FOVE both additional capital and support to enhance the completion of the hardware production.

The company had promised to look at integrating Valve's Lighthouse technology, to accurately track the headset's position, if it reached $700,000 in funding.

The Fove headset lets users focus on specific areas of a scene and aim computer game weapons using just their eyes.

Ik Hyun Lim, head of Samsung Ventures Japan, said: "We believe Fove will launch a competitive VR device in the market soon."

Fove said it hoped to send early units to software developers in spring 2016.
