Samsung To Use Snapdragon 820 Chips In Some Galaxy S7 Phones: report

Samsung To Use Snapdragon 820 Chips In Some Galaxy S7 Phones: report

Smartphones Oct 2,2015 0

Samsung Electronics will use Qualcomm's mobile processors for some of its upcoming flagship Galaxy S smartphones, Electronic Times reported on Friday citing unnamed industry sources. The paper said that Samsung would equip the Galaxy S7 that will be sold in the biggest markets - U.S. and China - with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 application processor (AP). In other places such as Europe, Southeast Asia, and others including South Korea, the company will chose to sell the new smartphone with its own Exynos AP under the hood.

A Samsung spokeswoman said the firm does not comment on rumors or speculation.

Samsung has previously sourced mobile processors from both Qualcomm and through its own chips division for its premium devices including its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series. But last year, the South Korean firm used only its Exynos processors for the flagship Galaxy S6 smartphones this year, dealing a major blow to the U.S. chipmaker.

The Snapdragon 820 features strong LTE48 function, it will support up to 600 Mbps downlink, 150 Mbps uplink, next-generation HD voice, and LTE and Wi-Fi-based video call. Qualcomm is also installing 'Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0' function for high-speed charging.
