Chinese Develop Brain-controlled Car

Chinese Develop Brain-controlled Car

Enterprise & IT Dec 7,2015 0

Chinese researchers have developed a mind-controlled car, potentially interesting for their colleagues over Google responsible for the development of their Self Driving Car.

Chinese researchers have developed what they say is the country's first car that uses nothing but brain power to drive.

As Reuters reports, a research team from Nankai University developed a brain signal-reading equipment that can be used by a driver in order to control the car to go forward, backwards, come to a stop, and both lock and unlock the vehicle, all by using their mind.

The headset uses sensors that capture EEG (electroencephalogram) signals from the driver's brain. They also developed a computer program that selects the relevant signals and translates them, enabling control of the car.

The technology might soon be possible to combine brain controlled technology and driverless cars, such as the Google Self Driving Car (SDC). It could also be used for behicles designed for disabled people.

Of course, worries about potential road accidents cannot be neglected.

At present the vehicle, in collaboration with Chinese car manufacturer Great Wall Motor, can only drive in a straight direction, and there are no plans to put it into production.
