Nvidia Loses ITC Case Against Samsung, Qualcomm

Nvidia Loses ITC Case Against Samsung, Qualcomm

Enterprise & IT Dec 15,2015 0

A U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) on Monday upheld its earlier decision that rejected Nvidia's claims of patent violation by Samsung Electronics and Qualcomm over use of Nvidia's graphics chip technology. USITC decided not to review an initial order by an administrative law judge as it found no violation of Nvidia's patents related to graphics-processing chips.

An ITC administrative law judge had ruled in October that Samsung and Qualcomm infringed one of Nvidia's graphics patents, which wasn’t valid, and did not infringe two of Nvidia's other patents.

Nvidia had accused Samsung and Qualcomm of using its patents on graphics chip technology without permission or compensation.

Nvidia alleged the companies infringed its patents with Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors and Samsung's Exynos processors.

The USITC has the authority to stop the import of products that it determines infringe a U.S. patent.

Nvidia said it looks to appeal the USITC's decision.

"While today’s ruling ends this particular case in the ITC, we remain firm in our belief that our patents are valid and have been infringed and will look to appeal the ITC’s decision," Nvidia said in a statement.
