HTC, MSI To Showcase VR Backpack At TGS 2016

HTC, MSI To Showcase VR Backpack At TGS 2016

Consumer Electronics Sep 12,2016 0

HTC and Micro-Star International (MSI) team up to demonstrate their efforts in virtual reality development at the upcoming 2016 Tokyo Game Show. At the show, which will be held Sept. 15-18, MSI will introduce its VR One, the PC brand called the world's lightest VR backpack PC, which will support the HTC Vive, the first VR headset launched by HTC.

MSI VR One is the world’s lightest and thinnest backpack PC system. MSI hopes that the device will have "massive impacts on the global VR market by removing the current VR experience limitations of having to stay close to the PC and the monitor due to cables connected." MSI VR One weighs merely 3.6kg. It comes with 2 battery packs and is able to deliver 1.5 hours full speed gameplay. It is powered by overclocked CPU and GeForce GTX 10 series graphics card and it is able to deliver full throttle gaming performance under noise of 40dBA.

MSI VR One is designed with an armer pack, a robot machine style, with 2 battey packs on the bottom right and left of the backpack. Once removing the 2 batteries aside, MSI VR One is 2.2 kg in weight. As a stand alone PC system, MSI VR One is even lighter than some performance gaming notebooks.

VR One comes with 1x HDMI port, 1 Mini DisplayPort and 1 Thunderbolt3 by Type-C port supports highest bandwidth for dual 2K displays per eye. All these ports support over 90FPS for any high level VR devices. Moreover, there are 4x USB 3.0 ports for more external devices for some VR set requests.

The VR One is also equipped with the "MSI Dragon Cente" software. it offers users total control of their VR platform with 1 Click VR key. This software allows users to monitor the hardware status in details from their cell phones, but also allows adjustments and managements of MSI gaming features.

The HTC Vive is one of HTC's gambits to diversify from its core smartphone market, which is saturated and intensely competitive.

Jointly developed by HTC and Valve, the HTC Vive was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) show in March 2015. The headset is equipped with tracked controllers that allow wearers to inspect objects from every angle and interact with their surroundings.

HTC said that the company and Micro-Star will launch a special sales package that will bundle the HTC Vive with the VR One in the Japanese market, and sales of the new package will be available from Micro-Star's Japanese distributors in early October.

The VR One is scheduled to hit store shelves in Taiwan by the end of October, with a price tag of NT$69,900 (US$2,205), Micro-Star said.

In addition to the VR One, Micro-Star will also launch several high-efficiency gaming notebook models to accompany the presence of the HTC Vive at the Tokyo Game Show.

HTC is planning to introduce a series of content for the HTC Vive after working with game developer Square Enix, Japanese telecom operator KDDI and many others.
