ASUS has announced the VivoBook 14 (X420), a compact 14-inch laptop features a frameless four-sided NanoEdge display with an 87% screen-to-body ratio.

The slim bezel allows a large display to fit into a smaller chassis, effectively reducing the laptop footprint for a more compact and portable machine - measuring just 322.4 x 210 x 17.7mm, and weighing just 1.4kg. VivoBook 14 is powered by up to an 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processor, and features the ErgoLift hinge that tilts the keyboard to replicate the feel of a desktop keyboard.

The frameless four-sided NanoEdge design gives VivoBook 14 bezels that are only 5.7mm thin for an 87% screen-to-body ratio. The FHD panel also features wide-view technology.

The laptop can be specified with up to a 512GB SSD. In addition, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi connections provide speeds of up to 867Mbps. VivoBook also features Bluetooth 4.2.

An optional fingerprint sensor built into the touchpad provides one-touch access with Windows Hello. There’s also has a full-size backlit keyboard featuring an 1.3mm key travel.

Connectivity is provided by an array of ports including USB Type-C (USB-C), USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A, USB 2.0, HDMI output, and a microSD card reader.

All VivoBook models feature all-day battery life and a lifespan that’s up to 3X-longer than standard lithium-ion batteries. Fast-charge technology enables users to charge a low battery to 60% in 49 minutes.

ASUS has not announced MSRPs of its new VivoBook 14 machines.
