Mozilla Plans "Paid Firefox" Services For Future Backing

Mozilla Plans "Paid Firefox" Services For Future Backing

Enterprise & IT Jun 10,2019 0

Mozilla Corporation is planning to offer paid services as it seeks for new revenue sources.

Mozilla maintains the popular web browser Firefox, which is available to users for free. The web browser received a major refresh back in 2017 with the release of Firefox Quantum. Ever since, it has competed with the likes of Google Chrome.

Currently, Firefox is making money by using Google as its default search engine, and also through its content curation app called Pocket.

Speaking to German T3N, CEO Chris Beard said that Mozilla is currently exploring the possibility of secure cloud storage and VPN services for users. The plan is to offer users a service that will include a free version will limited bandwidth, along with a paid service for those who want more would have to shell out money from their pockets every month.

However, all the services and features that are currently offered free will remain free in the future as well, Beard told T3N.

Mozilla has been exploring ways to transform Firefox into something more than a web browser. The company has recently added a bunch of useful features, including a file sharing feature called Firefox Send and a built-in password manager.
