AMD today announced the AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card, which is based on the groundbreaking AMD RDNA gaming architecture and comes with up to 8GB of memory.

The latest addition to the AMD Radeon RX 5500 series graphics offerings announced in October, the AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card is optimized to deliver high-performance 1080p AAA and esports gaming. Built on the 7nm process technology, supporting high-bandwidth PCIe 4.0 technology and available with either 4GB or 8GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory, it provides up to 13 percent faster performance on average in today’s top AAA games than the Nvidia GTX 1650 Super, according to AMD. The card also elivers up to 60+ frames-per-second (FPS) in select AAA games and up to 90+ FPS in select top esports titles.

The AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card offers a host of capabilities and AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition features:

• AMD RDNA Architecture – Provides up to 1.6X higher gaming performance-per-watt than Radeon graphics cards based on the prior-generation Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture.
• AMD Radeon Anti-Lag – AMD Radeon Anti-Lag decreases input-to-display response times, including making Overwatch up to 22 percent more responsive and offering a competitive edge in gameplay.
• AMD Radeon Boost – Delivers up to a 20 percent performance boost during fast-motion gaming scenarios in PUBG by dynamically reducing image resolution with little to no perceptible change in image quality.
• AMD Radeon Image Sharpening (RIS)11 – Brings crispness and clarity to in-game visuals that have been softened by upscaling and post-process effects in DirectX 9, 11, 12 and Vulkan titles. When paired with Radeon GPU upscaling, RIS enables sharp visuals and fluid frame rates on high-resolution displays.
• AMD FidelityFX – An open-source toolkit for game developers making it easier for them to add high-quality post-process effects that make games look beautiful while offering the optimal balance of visual fidelity and performance. Available on GPUOpen, FidelityFX features Contrast-Adaptive Sharpening (CAS), which draws out detail in low-contrast areas while minimizing artifacts caused by typical image sharpening routines.

Where the Radeon RX 5700 series packed 2,304 stream processors into the $350 Radeon RX 5700, and 2,560 SPs in the faster $400 Radeon RX 5700 XT, AMD’s mainstream-focused Radeon RX 5500 XT reduces that to 1,408 stream processors. The Radeon RX 5500 XT’s effective clock speed during play splits the difference between the two RX 5700 cards, with a rated 1,717MHz Game Clock.

Compared to the “Polaris” GPU-based graphics cards that the Radeon RX 5500 XT replaces, the shift to Navi is a big deal, delivering all those snazzy new features as well as vastly improved power efficiency. But the change in memory helps reduce power needs, too. AMD’s latest GPU packs ultra-fast, energy-efficient GDDR6 memory. Paired with a 128-bit bus, it’s good for an overall memory bandwidth of 224GBps.

Both 4GB and 8GB models will be available starting at $169 and $199 respectively. AMD says that 4GB is the better price-to-performance option for most people, and it should deliver identical frame rates in many games—but not all.

The Radeon RX 5500 XT requires 130W of power for the board, which means that all models will have to include at least a 6-pin power connector.

The new AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card is also eligible for the latest AMD Radeon Raise the Game bundle, offering gamers Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition and three months of complimentary access to Xbox Game Pass for PC with the purchase of an AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card.

AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics cards are available beginning today from ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, SAPPHIRE and XFX, with an SEP starting at $169 USD.

As you may notice, Radeon RX 5500 XT costs more than the Nvidia GTX 1650 and 8GB RX 580, and benchmarks show thet AMD's new offering the Radeon RX 5500 XT is not exaclty a clear winner over its predecessors and the competition.
