Sony focuses on SACD promotion
In its largest consumer promotion for the Super Audio CD yet, Sony Electronics is joining with Wenner Media's Rolling Stone Magazine to give away a multichannel hybrid SACD sampler in over 1.3 million copies of the magazine next month.
The promotion, which is supported by Circuit City and Clear Channel Entertainment's Premiere Radio Networks, will begin on Nov. 21 to coincide with the publication of Rolling Stone's biggest issue of the year, celebrating what it calls "The Top 500 Albums of All Time."
The nine-track sampler disc features music from the Rolling Stone list, with high-resolution stereo and multichannel versions of each song, as well as a version that can be played on most home, car and portable CD players.
Readers of the magazine will be encouraged to take their sampler SACD to Circuit City locations to hear a multichannel demonstration of the format, and enter a contest for a chance to win SACD-compatible DVD home theater systems and SACD titles. The "SACD Sweepstakes" will be highlighted on a radio special the will be broadcast on more than 200 Premiere Radio Network stations across the country.
