Symantec announces Norton Ghost 9.0!
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced the launch of Norton Ghost 9.0, a comprehensive disk imaging solution for home and small office users.
Enhanced with Drive Image technology, which Symantec obtained through the acquisition of PowerQuest Corporation, Norton Ghost 9.0 offers consumers the ultimate solution in data storage and protection with a complete, reliable, quick and easy way to backup system files, programs, settings, documents and other important data.
With Norton Ghost 9.0, users can now create backup images without restarting their computer or exiting Windows through the product's hot imaging technology. Imaging takes place in the background without interruption, allowing users to continue work on their system as the backup takes place.
Users also benefit by saving valuable time and storage space with Norton Ghost's incremental backup and restore feature. Once an initial image of a hard drive is completed, users can make future backups incrementally -- updating only the files and information that have changed rather than backing up the entire hard drive again. In the event it is necessary to restore data, users can choose to restore the entire system or just specific files or folders.
"Regular hard drive backups are an essential component of data protection. All computer users, from those with basic technical knowledge to the most advanced users, should regularly backup their computer to prevent the loss of essential system files, important documents and valuable data like digital pictures, music and contact lists," said Matthew Moynahan, vice president of consumer products and solutions at Symantec Corp. "Norton Ghost 9.0 allows users to easily make a complete image of their hard drive so they can feel confident that all the valuable information on their computer has been safely backed up and stored."
To make the process of backing up even easier, Norton Ghost 9.0 allows users to schedule automatic backups by the day or hour. Norton Ghost 9.0 also features point-in-time rollback, allowing users to choose a specific backup operation and to restore their computer to the exact state it was in at the time of that backup.
It also makes finding data, files and folders easy with its ability to mount images as a drive letter so that the backup copy looks just like the original drive. Norton Ghost 9.0 is also backward compatible with PowerQuest Drive Image 7.0, allowing users to access and restore images created with the product.
Symantec Recovery Disk is also included in Norton Ghost 9.0. This helpful tool allows users to boot, restore a backup image, and perform system fixes and virus scans when their computer's operating system is not responding. For Windows 9x users, the previous version of Norton Ghost is also included. Norton Ghost 9.0 also offers increased driver and interface support for USB, USB2 and FireWire removable storage devices.
Pricing and Availability
Norton Ghost 9.0 is available now at www.SymantecStore.com and at select retailers for an estimated retail price of $69.95. Users of previous versions of Norton Ghost and PowerQuest Drive Image may upgrade to Norton Ghost 9.0 for an estimated retail price of $49.95 through a $20 mail in rebate.
