CES 2019: Dimenco's Simulated Reality Blurs Lines Between Virtual and Real

CES 2019: Dimenco's Simulated Reality Blurs Lines Between Virtual and Real

Enterprise & IT Jan 10,2019 0

Dutch Dimenco is promoting at CES it what it calls "Simulated Reality," an interactive platform that allows you naturally interact with 3D objects without any glasses or VR headsets.

The idea of glasses-free 3D has been abandoned by TV makers and has been since the initial products back in 2011 lacked high enough resolution -
screens had to produce two images - and also their viewing angles were limited.

Currently, companies are creating virtual 3D worlds via head-mounted displays.

Dimenco, headquartered in the Netherlands and a subsidiary of KDX with origins in Royal Philips Electronics, envisions a future filled with holograms like in Blade Runner, Iron Man and Minority Report.

The company has developed what it calls “Simulated Reality” technology. The technology is displaying interactive 3D video images using a lenticular filter over an 8K LCD display. With an 8K image, a video feed split into right and left eye images still gives you a high enough 4K resolution.

Dimenco has also addrf cameras and image processing to track the viewer’s eyes, essentially solving any viewing angle issues.

At CES, Dimenco partnered with Ultrahaptics, a company that uses ultrasound to simulate touch and added spatial audio processing to complete the “simulated reality” effect. CES vistors could experience a demo involving computer-generated figures, They could walk to the side and peek around a 3D human head.

Dimenco is seeking for hardware manufacturers to add the “Simulated Reality” to their displays, starting with manufacturers of laptops for gamers. regarding content, the company has introduced a development kit, which includes a 32-inch 8K display, gesture sensors, and audio hardware, along with software to allow its use with the main game development platforms.

Dimenco expects to see this technology reach consumers in 2020.
