Using the camera has its way. First of all the official specs don't indicate any IP ratings which means the camera won't survive drops or a very dusty environment which limits somewhat its true potential use. Akaso does mention the camera as "Waterproof" so we assume it will be fine in light rain or snow. The Akaso 360 Action camera mainly focuses at easy to use and is mainly for beginners. The announced retail price of $199 (basic package) confirms that, while the combo creator pack will cost $249.99 since it includes many other goodies compared with the basic one. Competition is hard at this price point we can say, we would like a price point of $150 for users to buy the product more easily and get familiar with it.

The camera can be quickly used in around 2seconds after power up and you can press the shutter button to start automatically recording. Each video clip at 5.7K @ 30fps automatically splits into 5mins duration, for easier editing and manipulation there is also included a "proxy" file.

The camera supports "invisible stick" operation, meaning it will automatically hide the used stick for a more professional look, while it has stabilization as well, even though Akaso doesn't mention how good it is. There is a framing freedom mode, meaning you can frame videos or pictures at home when looking at the clips. The camera will perform best with natural light and while night capturing is possible, we don't recommend it. The retail package includes two batteries that will last each for around 1hour when recording with both cameras at 5.7K @ 30fps and probably higher when recording at 4K with one lens.

The used codec is H. 264, MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) with 2880x2800 resolution and 48KHz sound.

The Video data rate seems around 60Mbps @ 24FPS.

Τhe Akaso 360 action camera has a tripod mount hole at the bottom and for better use should be used upon a long tripod. Akaso sells such a kit, which is affordable and with good weight if you compare it with other much higher solutions (carbon fiber) that are also much higher priced. We find the overall menu easy to use and fast, didn't show any weird locks or glitches and there is a carrying pouch that should be used when the camera is not in use to avoid scratching the front and back lenses.

The Akasa 360 App seems nice to work with and it's rather fast and includes several ways to edit your 360 Videos. Akasa also offers a Windows/MAC Studio version for use with desktop systems as well, nice! The used sensor size is 1/2 inch with an aperture of f/2.25 (Equivalent focal length: 7.6mm (35mm equivalent). The minimum focusing distance is 50 cm, while a safe stitching distance is 30 cm. The camera does not have built-in storage. It supports microSD cards with a maximum capacity of 512GB. Based on 5.7K 30fps video and using a 64GB card will get you about 70 minutes, while other microSD capacities offer more recording up to 560minutes with a 512 GB-sized card. The microphone has a built-in wind reduction design that helps minimize wind noise during outdoor shooting.

When shooting at high temperatures, the camera features overheat protection. When the temperature exceeds a safe limit during recording, the camera will display a warning message, automatically save your footage, and then shut down to prevent damage. This helps protect both your recordings and the camera itself. When using the DNG8 mode, the camera saves 8 RAW images with different exposures. In the app, they appear like regular photos. To get the final image, open one of the DNG files in the AKASO 360 Studio on a PC. The software will automatically detect and import the remaining files. Click "Export" to generate the merged image.

Overall the Akaso 360 Action Camera is a new product that is worth your attention, especially since the entry-level price is good and if you're looking for spectacular 360 videos, this product will accompany you on long journeys. Akaso also sells the creator combo pack, with more batteries and an external charger for a higher retail price. The company frequently updates the software and firmware of the product, which means it believes and stands behind its products.
