AMD chose the PC Gaming Show at E3 today to announce the Radeon RX 460 and RX 470 graphics cards, two new cards based on the company's new Polaris architecture. AMD CEO Lisa Su delivered a pre-launch showcase of the full line of forthcoming Radeon RX Series graphics cards set to deliver enthusiast class performance and features for gamers at mainstream price points from $100-$300. AMD previously showcased the Radeon RX 480 graphics card, designed for AAA gaming at 1440p resolution and set to be the most affordable solution for VR gaming starting at just $199 SEP for the 4GB version.

The newly announced Radeon RX 470 graphics card is promising to deliver power-efficient HD gaming, and the Radeon RX 460, a "cool and efficient solution for the ultimate e-sports gaming experience."

AMD is promoting the Radeon RX Series as a appropriate for VR gaming, making them available to many form factors and millions of consumers by lowering the cost barriers to entry.

Through a combination of Radeon RX Series performance profiles and close-to-the-metal APIs that closely mirror console APIs, AMD believes that developers will be further empowered to co-develop high quality game content for both consoles and PCs.

Gaming notebooks have traditionally been large and cumbersome or under-powered for today’s gaming needs. The Radeon RX Series addresses this with flagship technology that effectively gives mobile users GPU performance that rivals that of consoles with low power and low-z height to drive thin gaming notebooks, and 1080p 60Hz gaming experiences for both eSports and AAA titles.

Both cards are based on the 14nm FinFET process. They support the same bells and whistles announced for the Radeon RX 480, including HDMI 2.0b, high dynamic range video, H.265 encoding and decoding, and the next-gen DirectX 12 and Vulkan gaming APIs. AMD was a little sparse on the details, and specifications, prices, or release dates were not announced at the event.

Lisa Su also also showed off some of the work that AMD is doing in collaboration with technology partners. That included a world-first sneak-peek of the upcoming Serious Sam VR experience from Croteam using AMD LiquidVR Technology, and some new PC technology from Alienware, including the new Alienware VR Backpack product concept featuring Radeon RX Series graphics.

Radeon graphics will also be powering Alienware’s entire next-generation line-up of gaming desktops, which were unveiled at E3 today. The forthcoming Radeon RX Series graphics processors will soon be a part of the lineup available on the Alienware Aurora. Engineered to support dual-graphics, and liquid-cooled, overclocked processors, the Alienware Aurora is every gamer’s dream.

Continuing its push into exciting new form factors, Radeon graphics will also drive the new Alienware Alpha small form factor desktops.
