Apple Buys Sleep Tracking App Maker Beddit
Apple has acquired a sleep tracking app and Beddit, a Finnish hardware company that makes sleep-tracking devices that work with apps for iOS and the Apple Watch.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Beddit has been acquired by Apple. Your personal data will be collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the Apple Privacy Policy," the company said.
Beddit manufactures Beddit 3 Sleep Monitor, a monitoring device which tracks heart rate, breathing and sleep time when placed on a bed. The monitor sells for $149.95 in Apple's online store and transfers the data to Beddit's iPhone app for analysis.
The Apple Watch is a device that requires daily charging, usually at night. As such, the device doesn't offer any native sleep-tracking capabilities, though there are some third-party apps that work for people who can find time to charge their watches during the day.
