ASUS and G.Skill Take Overclocking Records

ASUS and G.Skill Take Overclocking Records

PC components Sep 1,2014 0

With the launch of the new Intel Haswell-E platform, companies related to overclocking products are doing their best to showacse the capabilities of their offerings. ASUS and G.Skill are two of the big winners on the X99 platform. G.Skill and ASUS worked together to hit DDR4-4004 MHz using an i7-5930K and an ASUS Rampage V Extreme, with the memory at a rather tame 1.5 volts (compared to 1.2 volts standard, 1.35 volts for high performance kits).

The record was achieved under liquid nitrogen and with a single memory module.

ASUS held 37 records across CPU frequency, CPU absolute performance and 3D benchmarks such as 3DMark and Catzilla.
For example, the 3DMark Fire Strike 4-way record was performed using an i7-5960X at 5.624 GHz with four ASUS Matrix R9 290X cards at 1460/1750, G.Skill memory at DDR4-3000 C12 and the whole system under liquid nitrogen.

Taiwanese motherboard maker MSI used its new Intel X99 based OC motherboard -- the MSI X99S XPOWER AC -- and obliterated the Cinebench R15 world record for the Intel Core i7 5960X processor by scoring 2314 points while all 8 cores were running at an amazing 5931.02 MHz clock speed, which is almost 200 MHz higher than any other X99 motherboard currently on the market. In addition, wPrime, SuperPi and PiFast were all taken with speeds up to 6354.9 MHz.

More overclocking records are expected to be announced soon, as motherboard manufacturers will release new BIOSes to be more amenable to extreme overclocking settings, especially for benchmarks that can use all eight threads.

SUch overclocking records are performed using special setups so ultimately have little real world value. However, the companies typically use them in marketing campaigns.
