Crucial has a long tradition introducing quality products, either for fast users or also for budget one. The Crucial P510 series comes as a middle-category product, between the low end P310 (Gen4) and the high end P710 series (Gen5), introducing high reading/writing speeds and affordable price. Today we will examine the product and what offers to its end users. The P510 features read and write speeds of up to 11,000/9,550 megabytes per second (MB/s), bringing blazing fast Gen5 performance to the masses.

“With the exciting memory and storage offerings we’re debuting today, Crucial’s portfolio is now broader and stronger than ever before,” said Dinesh Bahal, corporate vice president and general manager of Micron’s Commercial Products Group. “These updates — from making fast Gen5 SSDs available to the mainstream to launching high-density memory options — illustrate our commitment to driving innovation, performance and value for every consumer from casual gamers to creatives and students to hardcore enthusiasts.”

The Crucial P510 2280 Gen 5 SSD offers these benefits:

  • Read/write speeds up to 11,000/9,500MB/s
  • Shorter load times and enhanced system responsiveness
  • Compatible with Gen5 laptops and desktops
  • Uses nearly 25% less power than previous Gen5 SSDs
  • High performance without a steep price
  • A great choice for savvy shoppers
  • 5-year limited warranty
  • 45 years of industry innovation

The SSD is available in a standard M.2 2280 form factor that offers an easy-to-install solution that customers can use to upgrade their existing laptops and extend device lifecycles rather than buying new ones and with a version with a heatsink and is ideally suited for use with PlayStation 5 and desktop gaming PCs.

The model with the heatsink does cost a little more, at least when looking the 2TB capacity. Inside the retail box, you won’t find much, just the NVME SSD drive and a quick printed guide. The product is inside a plastic shell that helps it survive transportation hazards. The Crucial P510 has all the typical dimensions for an M2 2280 NVME drive

and at the back, you will find all the needed information as serial number and firmware revision.

- Installation

Not much to be said here, just get the drive and plug it into an empty NVMe slot. In some boards you have to change Bios settings to Storage: PCIe to get the drive recognized. Before we start our tests, we can get some info for the drive via the Crucial Storage Executive software. The Crucial P510 had the latest available firmware (K1CR5102). The used controller comes from Phison E31T ES, has no build-in memory (HBM = Host Buffer Memory) and uses a 276-Layer Micron G9 NAND flash memory design.

Here is what the Crucial Storage Executive Software reported over the SMART information tab

Here is more information about the drive, it runs at PCIe Gen5 and supports NVME Express 2.0 protocol.
