EBay Takes On Amazon.com With Proposed GSI Commerce Acquisition
eBay is expected to strengthen its ability to take on No. 1 Web retailer Amazon.com with a $1.96 billion takeover bid for e-commerce service provider GSI Commerce.
eBay Inc. announced today that it has agreed to acquire GSI Commerce, a provider of ecommerce and interactive marketing services, for $29.25 a share, or total consideration of approximately $2.4 billion. The acquisition, which will be financed with cash and debt, is expected to close in the third quarter of 2011.
