Fujifilm brand expands into Enterprise Tape Storage
Fuji Photo Film (UK) Ltd., today announced the availability of a Fujifilm branded tape cartridge for the enterprise tape segment, the Fujifilm 3592 Enterprise Tape Cartridge.
Fujifilms high performance enterprise storage media is based on the companys proprietary NANOCUBIC technology and was developed for use with the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive 3592. The cartridge broadens Fujifilms enterprise products that include tape cartridges for IBMs popular TotalStorage 3590 storage system.
We are excited to bring Fujifilm further into the enterprise segment. Our coating breakthroughs such as ATOMM and NANOCUBIC have allowed us to evolve products into next generation storage solutions, said Roger Moore, Strategic Business Manager, Fuji Photo Film (UK) Ltd. Businesses rely on continuity and consistency of the increasingly complex data within their systems and tape continues to play a vital role in the protection of this important data. The increased capacity, performance and reliability of our 3592 products were developed with these rigorous demands in mind.
The addition of enterprise tapes to its product portfolio builds on Fujifilms long history in coating technology and recording media leadership, already established in mid-range tape with its pioneering advancements in DLTtape, Super DLTtape and LTO Ultrium products.
The challenges facing customers around back up, archive and recovery are increasing, making enterprise tape more critical, said Barry Rudolph, Vice President, Tape Storage Strategy at IBM. "Our customers demand flexibility, innovation and reliability across the enterprise with open, value driven support.
Fujifilm NANOCUBIC technology uses an ultra-thin layer coating to produce higher resolution for recording digital data, ultra-low noise and high signal-to-noise ratios that are ideal for magneto-resistive (MR) heads. Engineered for superior archival and reliability performance, a critical requirement for enterprise system users, NANOCUBIC combines a new binder to provide more stable chemical performance and a super-fine magnetic particle that provides stable physical performance.
Fujifilms Enterprise Tape Cartridges provide backup for archival libraries, disaster recovery solutions, and regulatory compliance systems for data-intensive and archiving-sensitive industries.
The Fujifilm 3592 cartridge has a native capacity of up to 300GB, a native data transfer rate of up to 40MB per second and is designed to provide data life of more than 30 years. A second format will offer a 60GB short-length, economy cartridge for the 3592 tape drive for applications requiring fast retrieval response times for individual data sets.
The Fujifilm Enterprise Tape Cartridge 3590 and 3592 are immediately available through Fujifilms key reseller partners.
About Nanocubic
Fujifilm NANOCUBIC technology achieves higher capacity with faster performance and better long-term reliability by leveraging several proprietary processes, including:
- Coating technology: NANOCUBIC technology employs an advanced precision coating process that can control the thickness of the magnetic layer on a nanometer scale;
- Particle technology: Two types of magnetic particles were developed for NANOCUBIC technology, both tens of nanometers in size: magnetic needle-shaped metal particles and plate-shaped barium-ferrite magnetic particles;
- Dispersion technology: NANOCUBIC technology uses a special organic binder material that has the ability to thoroughly disperse the particles in the coating solution so that a uniformly packed structure of the layer is realized.
These tape media advancements are augmented by a robust cartridge design. Fujifilm has employed a curved door design to prevent dust from entering the cartridge. In addition, the shell halves are fastened by strategically placed screws to provide increased impact protection.
