IDS launch Komodo - all in one CD-RW & DVD ROM drive

IDS launch Komodo - all in one CD-RW & DVD ROM drive

General Interest Jan 9,2003 0

Infinite Data Storage (IDS), a leader in portable optical data storage technologies, has today announced its latest product design, Komodo. Komodo is a high performance portable CD-RW and DVD-ROM drive in a single product, eliminating the need to carry multiple drives. IDS will be demonstrating the Komodo for the first time at the world's largest electronics event, Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 9th to 12th. The Komodo enables users to access and record data on CDs and access DVDs. It's ultra compact and lightweight design makes it ideal for people who need portable and easy access to large amounts and varied types of data. Using a high-speed USB 2.0 interface and category leading 24x read, write and re-write speeds, users can download, burn and access all types of data.

With 800MB of storage capacity, the Komodo offers the flexibility to store data on 8cm or 12cm CD-R and CD-RW media. It supports recording and playback of music, video images and business data, and the media is then accessible on PCs, DVD players, Hi-Fi systems and game consoles.

"Building on the success of our data recording and combined audio recording products, the Komodo marks the next phase of our corporate vision as we move into DVD innovation," said Jim Leslie, managing director, Infinite Data Storage. "The Komodo continues our tradition of simplifying data storage and retrieval with portable and personal solutions that work with existing media so users don't have to learn new techniques. Now consumers need only one, compact and portable device for all types of data."

According to Simon Shepherd, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) research analyst for storage systems research at IDC, "Personal data storage has become far too complicated and cumbersome with too many devices. We expect to see the emergence of all-in-one solutions for storing and accessing large amounts of data, anywhere and anytime."

The Komodo will be commercially available through IDS' channel partners in mid-2003. IDS has existing agreements with OEM partners in the United Kingdom, United States, Taiwan and Singapore.

In addition to the Komodo, IDS recently launched its camera hosting technology. This technology enables users to download photos directly to a CD by connecting any USB digital camera to an IDS-enabled portable CD-R or CD-RW device.
