Intel Expands The Xeon processor D-1500 Product Family And Unveils New Ethernet Controllers
Intel announced today new products and collaborations to accelerate the move toward more cloud-ready communications networks. The company is working with Cisco, SK Telecom and Verizon, to accelerate the move toward more flexible and responsive networks today and to lay the foundation for future 5G networks. Intel offers technology that increases network capabilities and bandwidth.
Intel will also provide support and expertise to América Móvil as it modernizes its infrastructure to accelerate the launch of new services, automate its processes and reduce its network operation costs in Latin America and Europe.
New offerings in the Intel Xeon processor D-1500 product family provide a foundation for extending intelligence from the network core to the edge for improved performance. The Intel Xeon processor D-1500 product family is Intel’s third generation 64-bit SoC and the first based on Intel Xeon processor technology. Intel is expanding the family with eight new processors, ranging from 4 cores to 8 cores.
The processor launching today are the following:
- Intel Xeon D-1541 (8C, 45W, 2.1GHz)
- Intel Xeon D-1531 (6C, 45W, 2.2GHz)
- Intel Xeon D-1521 (4C, 45W, 2.4GHz)
- Intel Xeon D-1548 (8C, 45W, 2.0GHz)
- Intel Xeon D-1537 (8C, 35W, 1.7GHz)
- Intel Xeon D-1528 (6C, 35W, 1.9GHz)
- Intel Xeon D-1527 (4C, 35W, 2.2GHz)
- Intel Xeon D-1518 (4C, 35W, 2.2GHz)
- Intel Xeon D-1517 (4C, 25W, 1.6GHz)
- Intel Xeon D-1508 (2C, 25W, 2.2GHz)
- Intel Xeon D-1507 (2C, 20W, 1.2GHz)
The processors are suited for various networking, cloud storage, enterprise storage and IoT applications that operate in dense, rugged environments.
Additional processors in the Intel Xeon processor D-1500 product family, with 12 cores and 16 cores and support for extended temperature, will be available in the first quarter of 2016.
In addition, the new Intel Ethernet Multi-host Controller FM10000 Family combines Ethernet technology with advanced switch resources for use in high-performance communications network applications and dense server platforms. With up to 200 Gbps of high-bandwidth multi-host connectivity and multiple 100 Gigabit Ethernet ports, it delivers high packet processing capability and reduces performance bottlenecks in moving network traffic within and between servers.
The controller also supports a new set of network protocols that enables service providers to separate the network functions virtualization (NFV) network from the physical network in order to provide agile services. By supporting encapsulation and de-encapsulation of network service chaining traffic in the controller, along with enabling other data plane development kit (DPDK) acceleration enhancements, the FM10000 family can help improve data center efficiency.
The new Intel Ethernet Controller X550 family is a low-power 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity solution that can offer a performance boost to data center servers and network appliances.
This second generation 10GBASE-T Ethernet controller offers two 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports in a single controller and provides flexible I/O virtualization for port partitioning and quality of service (QoS).
It also supports network virtualization overlay accelerations such as stateless offloads for tunneled VXLAN and NVGRE traffic to preserve application performance and reduce CPU overhead, with LAN, Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), and Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) data traffic for broad network and storage support.
