iTunes Launches European Expansion
In a move that may hasten that expectation, iTunes has announced it will expand its services in
Europe.
According to Apple's press release, the iTunes Music Store (IMS) will expand to Denmark,
Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. Apple, as well as independent estimates, judge that iTunes is
responsible for 70% of all 'legal' music content distributed on the Internet. The addition of these
four countries places iTunes availability in 19 countries.
"The iTunes Music Store has revolutionized the way we discover and enjoy music, and is now selling more than half a billion songs per year," said Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of Applications. "With iTunes Music Stores now in 19 countries, music fans around the world can enjoy the number one online music service in the world."
As iTunes further expands its growth world-wide, there is further speculation that video availability may be Apple's next venture. This speculation was fueled by QuickTimes integration into the latest version of iTunes (4.8.)
In fact, according to News.com, videos are already beginning to be distributed as promotional extras.
As an additional token of Steve Job's generosity, every Swiss citizen that signs up for iTunes will be given one free song to download.
