AVCHD is a high definition (HD) digital video camera recorder format that allows for recording and playback high-resolution, digital HD images using 8cm DVD media or SD memory cards. The format is popular in Japan, where BS digital HD broadcasting and digital terrestrial broadcasting have been expanding since 2006.
