LG To Create Global Module Ecosystem For G5 With LG Playground Development Platform
LG electronics will soon release hardware and and software tools to promote the development of modules compatuble with its latest G5 flagship smartphone. Speaking to the 'G5 and Friends Developers Conference' that was held yesterday in S. Korea, the president of LG Electronics’ Mobile Business Department announced the 'LG Playground' initiative, calling LG’s software (SW) and hardware (HW) partners to develop products and accessories for the G5 smartphone.
"We are going to establish a module ecosystem that will be started with G5 and LG Friends." said Cho Joon-ho. "We are going to create variety of programs that will support developers."
LG Electronics plans to introduce SDK (Software Development Kit) and HDK (Hardware Development Kit) through its development site (developer.lge.com) next month.
The LG G5 smartphone was announced last month during the Mobile World Congress. The smartphone has a Modular Type design and was accompanied by the 'LG Friends,' a collection of companion devices that transform the G5 into a digital camera, Hi-Fi player and more.
LG Electronics will soon open up a website (www.lgfriends.com)in order to offer its partners a platform to spromote and sell modules or software as part of the LG Playground program. Participating partners will of course share profits with LG Electronics.
