Matsushita Sues MediaTEK for Semiconductor-related Patent Infringement
Matsushita Electric, sued the Taiwanese MediaTEK corporation in the California north section federal district court.
The accusations are for semiconductor-related patent infringements. The lawsuit was applied for on August 3rd against OPPO Digital, Inc. and Micro-Star International Co. as well.
Matsushita was in a license negotiation since 2004 with MediaTEK, concerning the use of the former corporation's patent in the field of the semiconductors used in DVD drives. Since the two companies did not reach an agreement, Matsushita yestaerday filed for lawsuit.
Matsushita stresses the fact that the development of system LSI's as an outcome of research and development, constitute intellectual property rights and wishes to secure them under any circumstances.
The suit concerns the main DVD-related LSI which is being produced by the Taiwanese MediaTEK corporation and asks for compensation for damages inflicted due to the unlawful use of the particular patent. It also demands the prohibition of any sales made by MediaTEK and its allies on products based on this particular LSI design.
