MediaTek Signs Technology Transfer and License Agreement with WiTricity For Wireless Charging
Fabless semiconductor company MediaTek Inc. and WiTricity today jointly announced that has entered into a technology transfer and license agreement.
MediaTek will collaborate on the development and marketing of semiconductor
solutions optimized for WiTricity?s patented technology for wireless charging
over distance.

"Wireless charging will become an essential built-in function for next generation mobile devices, and MediaTek looks forward to providing the best available wireless charging solutions using WiTricity technology," said David Ku, CFO and spokesperson of MediaTek.
WiTricity is a Watertown, MA based company that is commercializing patented technology for wireless charging over distance. This enables devices such as smart phones and tablet computers to be charged simply by being placed nearby a small WiTricity charging source, or placed on a desktop or automobile console that is equipped with a WiTricity charging source. WiTricity technology for charging over distance overcomes the need for the precise positioning that is a shortcoming of first generation inductive charging pads.
This license is planned to result in semiconductor solutions and associated reference designs to be sold and supported by MediaTek on a global basis to OEM?s, ODM?s, and contract manufacturers.
