New AMD R9 285 Radeon Graphics Card Unveiled

AMD on Saturday unveiled Radeon R9 285, the newest addition to the company’s lineup of desktop graphics cards. The announcement was made during the company's 30 Years of Gaming and Graphics event.

The R9 285 uses AMD’s Tonga Pro GPU, which is clocked at 918MHz and has a memory speed of 5.5Gbps.The board can deliver up to 3.29 teraFLOPS of computing performance.

The 190-watt R9 285 requires a pair of six-pin power connectors and has PCI Express 3.0 interface.

AMD claims that th enew card is faster than the Nvidia GTX 760. But we'll have to say more on that as soon as we finish the review of the card. Officially, it will be available for purchase on September 2nd, and it’ll set you back $249.

AMD is a;lso partnering with Creative Assembly, developer behind the "Alien: Isolation." Developed in conjunction with the AMD Gaming Evolved program, "Alien: Isolation" natively supports the AMD Eyefinity technology, 4K UltraHD, AMD CrossFire multi-GPU technology, and a wide range of DirectX 11 effects tuned for the Graphics Core Next architecture in recent AMD Radeon GPUs and AMD Accelerated Processing Units.

Gamers looking to try the environments of "Alien: Isolation" for themselves can secure a complimentary copy by purchasing an eligible AMD Radeon R9 Series graphics card from a retailer participating in the new Never Settle: Space Edition promotion beginning Sept. 2, 2014.
