New Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Tablets Go on Sale July 7

New Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Tablets Go on Sale July 7

PC components Jun 24,2013 0

Samsung's new Galaxy Tab 3 tablets will go on sale in the U.S. on July 7, with the 7-in. model starting at $199. The cheapest model has a screen that measures 7 inches diagonally. An 8-inch model will go for $299 and a 10-inch one for $399.

The new tablets mimic Samsung's Galaxy smartphones, featuring the same three buttons on the front.

The 10-inch model uses an Intel 1.6 GHz dual-core processor and has a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, compared with 1920 by 1080 for the Galaxy S4 phone.

All three come Wi-Fi-ready, with internal storage ranging from 16GB to 32 GB, with storage expansion of up to 64 GB with a microSD card. They also come with built-in infrared (IR) for using the tablets as universal remote control devices which can activate Samsung's WatchOn service for recommendations on TV content.

The Tab 3 8.0 will additionally support Samsung's Multi-Window functionality, seen previously in the Galaxy Note line of smartphone/tablets. With Multi-Window, users can use two apps side-by-side, with support for up to 20 apps, including Google Chrome and Facebook.

According to the latest Gartner projections, sales of tablets and mobile phones will continue to grow through 2015, while, over the same period, PC sales will continue to slow down. In 2013 alone, tablet sales should increase by 67.9 percent compared with 2012, while PC sales are set to see a drop of 10.6 percent.

Sales of computers, tablets and smartphones combined should total 2.35 billion products in 2013, which represents an increase of 5.9 percent in one year.

Gartner predicts sales of tablets to increase by 67.9 percent in 2013, then by 36.8 percent in 2014, reaching a yearly sales total of 276 million products.

In 2014, Android could be the operating system on 42 percent of these devices, compared with 22 percent in 2012.
