NVIDIA Launches The GeForce GTX 700M For Gaming Notebooks
NVIDIA today introduced the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 700M series of notebook GPUs, which enable smaller and more powerful gaming notebook PC designs.
"Virtually all of the new gaming notebooks are built around GeForce GTX
700M GPUs," said Rene Haas, vice president and general manager of
computing products at NVIDIA. "The GPU is the heart of any gaming PC, and
all the top gaming OEMs unanimously chose the GeForce GTX 700M series
this refresh cycle. GeForce GTX means gaming, more now than ever before."
Based on the NVIDIA Kepler architecture, 700M series GPUs feature technologies that automatically maximize notebook performance. The technologies work in the background to save battery life, enhance performance and enrich visual details. They include:
- NVIDIA Optimus technology, which enables extra-long battery life by switching the GPU on and off so it runs only when needed.
- NVIDIA GeForce Experience software, which adjusts in-game settings for the best performance and visual quality specific to a user's notebook and automatically keeps GeForce drivers up to date.
- NVIDIA GPU Boost 2.0 technology, which intelligently adjusts GPU clock speed to maximize graphics performance.
The new GeForce GTX 700M GPU lineup includes:
- GeForce GTX 780M
- GeForce GTX 770M
- GeForce GTX 765M
As you see above, the GTX 780M has 14% more shaders than GTX 680M along with a a base clock that's at least 14% higher. The memory clock of the GTX 780M is also 39% higher.
The GTX 770M has the same number of cores as the GTX 675MX at a higher clock. On the other hand, memory bandwidth has dropped due to the 192-bit bus.
The GTX 765M has also a a 128-bit bus as well as fewer cores than the GTX 670MX, but they are set to run at higher clocks.
Nvidia's new mobile GPUs are the company's answer to the upcoming Intel Haswell chips, and especially those that will carry the GT3e GPU. Intel has said that the GT3e's will offer the performance of an Nvidia GT 650M. However, Nvidia believes that its latest mobile GPUs offer even greater performance in gaming and a better driver support. According to Rene Haas, Intel's comparison figures with Nvidia's mobile GPUs are misleading, since Intel uses synthetic benchmarks that they optimize for to compare performance. In addition, the GT3e product will be found in the top tier of their CPU family, meaning in expensive notebooks. He claims that notebook buyers will be offered much better performance at a significantly lower cost by selecting a GeForce notebook.
Notebook manufacturers that will use the GeForce GTX 700M GPUs in their designs include Acer, Asus, Clevo, Gigabyte, MSI, Razer and Toshiba.
