Nvidia is reportedly planning to apply a new technology called which can boost the graphics performance to systems that feature Nvidia's IGP (integrated graphics processor) and discrete GPUs. Citing sources in the PC industry, the Chinese HKEPC web-site. reported that Nvidia's new technology will be applied to both desktop and notebook PCs. This "Hybrid SLI" technology will turn off discrete GPUs and only run the IGP when the user is operating normal 2D applications. In case of 3D applications, the technology will turn on the discrete GPU on the fly, without the need to reboot the system, boosting the graphics performance. In addition, the technology is expected to increase the battery life of notebook PCs.

Nvidia's concept is close enough to AMD's PowerXpress technology, as it was announced a couple of months ago. PowerXpress will allow dynamic switching between integrated and discrete graphics to extend battery life. PowerXpress will be included in the AMD RS780 chipset that will support the company's upcoming Griffin microprocessors for notebooks.
