Opera Unveils New Opera Mini 6 and Opera Mobile 11 Browsers

Opera Unveils New Opera Mini 6 and Opera Mobile 11 Browsers

Smartphones Mar 22,2011 0

Opera Software unveiled on Tuesday new versions of its Mini and Mobile wireless browsers, improving tablet support and features like scrolling, zooming and sharing. The new Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers launched today. Both offer improved scrolling, panning and zooming, pinch-to-zoom on devices that support it as well as a share button for Tweeting and quick posting on Facebook.

Compared to the Opera Mobile browser, the Opera Mini browser offers faster downloads, as it uses Opera?s servers to roll webpages down to a tenth of their original size before sending them to a phone. Because the data transferred is smaller, pages arrive faster. This also means that on a pay-as-you-go plan, the Opera Mini browser cuts the price a user pay.

On the other hand, the Opera Mobile browser - compatible with both smartphones and tablets - supports HTML5, high fidelity web browsing and it shares the same Opera Presto browser engine found in Opera?s desktop browser.

The Opera Mini 6 browser brings the fireworks to J2ME, Android, BlackBerry and Symbian/S60 phones. The Opera Mobile 11 browser sings hallelujah on the Android, Symbian, Windows 7 desktop, MeeGo and Maemo platforms.

Opera is the world's most used mobile browser ahead of Apple, Nokia and Google's Android, controlling 21.6 percent of the market in March so far, according to Web analytics firm StatCounter.
