Pioneer Unveils New Blu-ray 'combo' Drive For Home PC

Pioneer's new BCD-S02 Blu-ray drive for home computers will be available in Europe at the end of May. The BCD-S02 will read both single and dual-layer Blu-ray disc formats and provide high-speed read and write compatibility for a wide range of DVD and CD discs. The drive will be available though Pioneer's distribution network for around €250.

With the new drives, Pioneer provides a cost-efficient, and simple method to experience Blu-ray entertainment on a home PC.

The system can also be easily connected to your living room entertainment set-up, so users can watch movies on their flat screen TV.

With DVD and CD read/write compatibility, the drive is a smart mix of next generation technology and practicality.



Additional specs include:

- Buffer Memory Size : 4MB (?Buffer Under Run? protection for DVD and CD)
- Interface: Serial ATA Revision 1.0
- Data Transfer Mode: Gen1i, 1.5Gbits/sec
- Audio Interface: Stereo audio output
- Dimensions: W=148 x D=185 x H=42.3mm (including front bezel)
- Net Weigh t: 0.98 kg

The retail package includes bundled software to enable the playback of BD movies and the creation and playback of DVD and CDs.
