QNAP Launches Budget-Friendly TS-230 NAS for Home Media Hub and File Center

QNAP Launches Budget-Friendly TS-230 NAS for Home Media Hub and File Center

PC components May 18,2020 0

QNAP Systems, Inc. today launched the new entry-level TS-230 NAS for home use.

The TS-230 has been designed for home and daily central storage, back up, photo and video sharing. All digital assets on the TS-230 are protected by the snapshot function. Coupled with multimedia apps and transcoding feature support, the TS-230 is an entry-level NAS for creating a smart lifestyle.

The TS-230 uses a Realtek RTD1296 quad-core 1.4 GHz processor and built-in 2GB DDR4 RAM. It provides one Gigabit port and supports SATA 6Gbps disk drives, AES-256 encryption, and SSD caching. The cooling fan uses an HDB type Sintetico bearing fan for maintaining high airflow and low noise, providing better cooling for the TS-230 to ensure constant system operation. The tool-less hard drive installation makes TS-230 setup easy even for a NAS newbie.

The TS-230 features intelligent QTS operating system that supports file storage, sharing, backup, synchronization, and data protection. Users can regularly back up Windows or macOS data to the TS-230 for centralized management and file sharing, while utilizing the HBS app to back up NAS data to the cloud. The NAS capability for creating multiple snapshot versions is pragmatic for protecting data against encryption-based locker viruses, and recovering data quickly and easily back to a specific period. More useful features include Qfiling for automated file organization, Qsirch for quick searches of specific files or pictures by keyword or color, Qsync for synchronizing files across multiple devices, such as NAS, mobile devices, computers, and mobile apps for remote NAS access with increased productivity at work and home.

Moreover, the TS-230 can perform as a home media hub. It supports Plex for media streaming and 4K (H.264) real-time transcoding for converting videos to universal file formats that can be played on multiple devices. The AI-powered QuMagie app brings intelligent and streamlined photo management by automatically organizing AI AIbums. Combined with its companion app QuMagie Mobile, users can browse NAS photos anytime anywhere. The built-in QTS App Center provides more install-on-demand apps, including tools for backup/sync, content management, communications, download, and entertainment, for extending NAS functionalities. For Docker users, installing Container Station on the TS-230 can facilitate containerized applications, such as smart homes or multimedia applications.

Key specifications

TS-230: 2-bay tower model; Realtek RTD1296 quad-core 1.4 GHz processor, 2 GB DDR4 RAM; supports 3.5-inch/2.5-inch SATA 6Gbps HDD/SSD; 1x RJ45 Gigabit port, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, 1x USB 2.0 port; 1x 8cm quiet fan
