Samsung 970 PRO 512GB SSD review
7. Summary
Samsung’s 970 PRO SSD showed very high queued 4K IOPS performance, meaning it can write and read many small files in a very fast fashion. However, IOPS is not very important for the average user, unless he/she is doing a lot of database related work or create complex workloads on your PC.
The drive’s sustained read / write performance was also again excellent, with the drive reaching its nominal advertised speeds.
The 970 Pro doesn’t streak ahead in benchmarks, but it does have far better endurance ratings than its rivals. That’s important in high-end systems where the SSD will be dealing with big workloads.
Samsung’s 970 PRO SSD is one of the fastest drives we have ever tested. Its overall speed proved to be very high, although the 512 GB drive we tested was not far ahead of the 960 Pro or the Adata XPG SX8200 SSD in some benchmarks.
For the 512GB volume, you are currently getting a 970 PRO for $150. Remember though that this type of NVMe SSD, needs a compatible motherboard (x4 PCIe Lanes Gen 3.0). Samsung tops off this SSD with a 5-year warranty period or your TBW value (whichever one comes first).
Unfortunately for the 970 Pro, the 970 Evo Plus street price is also lower too with the 500GB drive at $120 and the 970 Evo even lower. If you’re bargain hunting you may choose these options instead. But if you are building a workstation system or another kind of high-end machine, the 970 Pro’s great speed and impressive endurance ratings justify its price.
