Samsung Introduces the Galaxy S20, Galaxy Buds+ and the Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung today introduced the Galaxy S20 series of smartphones featuring 5G and AI camera technologies; the new Galaxy Buds+ and the foldable Galaxy Z Flip.
Galaxy S20 series
The Galaxy S20 series introduces a new camera architecture that combines AI with Samsung’s largest image sensor yet. The series includes the the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra models. All the devices come equipped with the latest 5G technology. The Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra are also the first devices that take advantage of both sub-6 and mmWave. The Galaxy S20 supports sub-6.
The Galaxy S20 introduces a new camera system—powered by AI and with Samsung's biggest image sensor yet.
With a larger image sensor, camera resolution is significantly increased, for more detailed images with added flexibility for editing, cropping, and zooming. S20 and S20+ have a 64MP camera. But the S20 Ultra model has a 108MP camera. Another benefit is that the larger sensors take in more light, so you get high image quality even in low light situations. The S20 Ultra takes things a step further with the option to shift dynamically between a high resolution 108MP mode and a 12MP mode, thanks to nona-binning technology which combines nine pixels into one at the sensor level.
With the Galaxy S20’s Space Zoom technology that uses a combination of Hybrid Optic Zoom and Super Resolution Zoom, which includes AI-powered digital zoom, even when you are far away you can zoom in close. Use up to 30X zoom on the Galaxy S20 and S20+, or step-up to the folded lenses on the S20 Ultra, which uses AI powered, multi-image processing to reduce quality loss at high zoom levels so that you can experience Super Resolution Zoom up to 100X with a clearer view.
An option called Single Take lets you stay in the moment, while you capture the moment. Thanks to its AI camera technologies, the Galaxy S20 can capture a number of photos and videos, such as Live focus, cropped, Ultra Wide and more.
The Galaxy S20 also offers 8K video shooting.
The new series also offers you a personalized soundtrack based around your routine, thanks to a new integration between Spotify and Bixby Routines. With Music Share, you can extend your paired Bluetooth connection to a car stereo or speaker via your device, so you and your friend can take turns DJ-ing during a road trip.
With 5G, the Galaxy S20 enhances the video chatting experience through a deep integration with Google Duo, bringing new Duo features first to Galaxy S20. Now, from the dialer, you can tap Duo to start a video call and enjoy, for the first time ever, FHD quality. Google Duo is compatible across operating systems, so you are not limited in who you can video chat with. Fit the entire family in the frame, using the wide lens; and talk to up to 8 friends, at once.
Samsung partnered with YouTube so you can upload your 8K videos directly to YouTube—and with integrated 5G capabilities, experience ultra-fast upload speeds.
Taking advantage of the Galaxy S20’s pro-grade camera, Netflix and Samsung are working together to put the Galaxy S20 in the hands of directors to capture bonus content based on popular Netflix Originals. Users can also discover Netflix's content through an improved integration with Galaxy devices, enabling ease of content discovery and accessibility via Samsung Daily, Bixby, and Finder.
The Galaxy S20 series also takes mobile gaming to the next level. With a 120Hz display, you’ll have the ability to experience smooth gaming. Later this spring, Microsoft, will launch its popular Forza Street in the Galaxy Store, marking the first time the game is coming to mobile. Combined with a fast processor, 12GB of RAM, audio tuned by AKG and a game booster working in the background to optimize settings for peak performance, the Galaxy S20 offers a powerful gaming experience.
The Galaxy S20 is protected by Knox—the mobile security platform that protects the device from the chip level through to the software level. The Galaxy S20 also features a new, secure processor which protects against hardware-based attacks.
Tthe Galaxy S20 series comes with a 25W fast charger, while the S20 Ultra supports 45W Super Fast charging as well. The entire series is equipped with massive storage as standard (128GB for S20; 128GB, 256GB and 512GB for Galaxy S20+ and S20 Ultra).
With Galaxy S20, you can also experience Samsung’s simplest interface yet with One UI 2. You can also use the Galaxy S20 to control your smart home with SmartThings, achieve your health and wellness goals with Samsung Health, pay on the go with Samsung Pay, and more.
Starting on March 6, 2020, the Galaxy S20 series will be available in various, classic colors. Prices are ranging from $999.99 to $1,599.99, and preorders begin on February 21st.
- Galaxy S20: Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue, Cloud Pink
- Galaxy S20+: Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue, Cosmic Black
- Galaxy S20 Ultra: Cosmic Grey, Cosmic Black
Samsung is also knocking at least $150 off the cost of its entire Galaxy S10 lineup of phones, which includes the S10E, S10, and S10 Plus. These permanent price cuts are effective immediately.
These 2019 phones have already seen a good deal of discounts in the year that they’ve been available, and with this price cut in effect, you’re looking at new starting price of $599 for the S10E ($150 off), $699 for the S10 ($200 off), and $799 for the S10 Plus ($200 off).

GALAXY BUDS+
The new Samsung Galaxy Buds+ offer sound by AKG, feature 2-way speaker; 3 mics; and a long battery life—up to 11 hours from Buds+ and an extra 11 hours in the case. Buds+ app, ‘Galaxy Buds+’, is now iOS compatible. And with Samsung's partnership with Spotify, you can listen to the tunes and podcasts you love more easily by hitting play with a single press.
For those who rely on their wireless headphones for phone calls and video conferencing, Galaxy Buds+ are fitted with three mics—one inner. The exterior microphones use beamforming to hone in on your voice and tune out background noise so that you can always be heard.
With improved Ambient Sound, users can tune out the outside world when they want to or amplify background noise when they need to stay alert by selecting from a range of new settings including low, medium, high or extra high.
Galaxy Buds+ offer eleven hours of music playback, and you can double that to 22 hours just by placing them in the 270mAh wireless charging case. When users in a hurry need to recharge, quick charging capabilities can generate 60 minutes of playback in just three minutes by using wired, wireless, or device-to-device charging with Wireless Powershare4.
New customizable touch capabilities on Galaxy Buds+ allow users to stay in control even without their smartphone in-hand. A single tap can play or pause music; a double tap can skip to the next track or answer a phone call; and the touch & hold command can be customized to whatever other action users need the most.
Once paired with a Galaxy smartphone, Galaxy Buds+ are automatically available on all other devices tethered to the same Samsung account.
Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung Electronics also the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Flip, a new foldable smartphone. Galaxy Z Flip is bold and stylish. Engineered with foldable glass, Galaxy Z Flip bends the laws of physics, and features a 6.7-inch display that folds into a stylish and compact form factor that fits in the palm of your hand. Designed with a Hideaway Hinge and custom-built UX, Galaxy Z Flip provides elegant new ways to capture, share and experience content.
The Galaxy Fold began the foldable era. Now, Galaxy Z Flip is shaping it for a new decade.
The Galaxy Z Flip folds into the size of a wallet, so you can easily fit it in your pocket or bag. When closed, it is a compact palm-sized device. When opened, its screen size nearly doubles to reveal a 6.7-inch display. With its color palette, sleek rounded corners and forward fold that closes with a satisfying snap, Galaxy Z Flip is sure to turn heads.
The Galaxy Z Flip features an Infinity Flex Display with Samsung’s proprietary bendable Ultra Thin Glass (UTG), making it slimmer with a sleek, premium look and feel. The centered in-display camera cutout at the top also means there’s no notch and no distractions, with Samsung’s first-ever 21.9:9 ratio, so you can enjoy even more of your favorite content such as cinema-ratio 21:9 shows and movies.
Galaxy Z Flip’s Hideaway Hinge is backed by a dual CAM mechanism designed to ensure every flip and fold is smooth and stable. Galaxy Z Flip can stay open at a range of angles, like a laptop screen. The Hideaway Hinge system also integrates Samsung’s new sweeper technology, which uses nylon fibers crafted by micro-height-cutting technology to repel dirt and dust.
When Galaxy Z Flip unfolds, it can stay open at multiple angles, unlocking opportunities for selfies that show more of the world around you and video chats with Google Duo – all hands-free.
Samsung worked with Google to design Flex mode – a custom-built user experience for Galaxy Z Flip’s unique forward folding form factor. When the device is free-standing, the display automatically splits into two 4-inch screens so you can view images, contents or videos on the top half of the display, and control them on the bottom half. You can watch and navigate YouTube – stream on the top while searching for other videos, reading descriptions and writing comments on the bottom.
You can create content for your social media feeds from the best angle and enjoy video recording with a 16:9 ratio. You can also capture Night Hyperlapse videos or low light shots with Night mode – no flash needed. Just open your device and place it on a table. When closed, quickly capture one-handed selfies using the rear camera without unfolding.
Whether Galaxy Z Flip is closed, standing upright or open, you won't miss a text, call or reminder. When closed, you can check the date, time and battery status at a glance on the cover display. You get real time notifications so you can answer a call without unfolding or respond to a text by simply tapping the notification and unfolding your Galaxy Z Flip.
In addition, you can multi-task with Multi-Active Window – open the Multi-Window Tray to drag and drop the apps you want to use. Scroll through an article on the latest fashion looks on the top half while shopping for your favorite pieces on the bottom.
As a Galaxy device, Galaxy Z Flip boasts flagship-level performance and features across camera, display, battery, security as well as services like Samsung Health, Samsung Pay, Samsung Knox and more. The camera supports 4K video capture, Live Focus and Super Steady recording.
The Galaxy Z Flip also features an optimized dual battery system that holds more power without taking up more space – wired or wirelessly quick charge, plus with Wireless PowerShare, you can wirelessly charge up your Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch or even a friend’s device. Samsung Knox protects users and their device from the chip to the software level and receives monthly and quarterly security updates. Users also get services that enable secure payment options with Samsung Pay, health and wellness tracking and monitoring with Samsung Health, and access to more than 5,000 Samsung and other smart products through SmartThings.
The Galaxy Z Flip, priced at $1,380, will be available in limited quantities in Mirror Purple and Mirror Black, starting in select markets including the U.S. and Korea on February 14, 2020, followed by Mirror Gold in select countries.
The Galaxy Z Flip isn’t Samsung Electronics Co.’s first foldable device, but it’s the first to carry the Z designation, which the company is dedicating exclusively to foldables.
“With the Z Series, we are adopting a new naming convention for our foldable portfolio that shows our commitment to expanding the category to offer a variety of experiences,” Samsung said. “We chose ‘Z’ for this series because it intuitively communicates the idea of a fold while delivering a dynamic, youthful feel.”
Limited Edition Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition, an exclusive collaboration from the leading technology company and iconic New York fashion brand. Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition draws on Samsung’s all new Galaxy Z Flip device and the fashion brand’s style.
Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition features distinctive Thom Browne signature brand colors on a pebble grey exterior, pulled right from the runway and offering all of the same features as Galaxy Z Flip. To complete the look, the special edition version also comes with custom designed Galaxy Buds+ and Galaxy Watch Active2.
A grey Thom Browne suit transforms into the sleek Galaxy Z Flip exterior. The limited edition smartphone is encased in glass while still having a matte look that is soft to the touch. Classic longwing brogues take a modern form with a grey pebble leather phone case, featuring the Thom Browne signature brand colors down the center.
And, when unfolded, Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition reveals even more design details inside. Iconic blinds—a reference to the mid-century office aesthetic at the center of the Thom Browne world—appear onscreen every time the phone is turned on and off. App icons, labeled in classic text, create an elemental Thom Browne uniformity. And sound cues—a typewriter for the keyboard, an analogue ringtone, a shoe tap on a marble floor—create a unique soundtrack for the device. Custom Thom Browne wallpaper ties the entire experience together.
Into the box, consumers will find a Galaxy Watch Active2 with a grey leather strap and a Thom Browne custom watch face that lets you personalize your wellness with style. And for a complete connected look, Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition is finished off with Galaxy Buds+ in matching grey, as well as a specially designed leather phone case infused with Thom Browne’s style.
A limited quantity of Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition devices will be available in select markets. Pre-orders for the device will begin Feb. 14 on Samsung.com and Thombrowne.com, as well as at NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER. The official launch will be in March.
