Samsung Licenses OneNAND to STMicroelectronics
Samsung today announced that STMicroelectronics, one of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers, has licensed Samsung's OneNANDTM technology, to help meet rising demand in various applications including the mobile marketplace.
According to the agreement, STMicroelectronics will support Samsung's OneNAND starting early 2007.
OneNAND's architecture features NAND core with SRAM and logic elements to emulate a NOR Flash interface. OneNAND provides a sustained data 'read' speed of 108 MByte/s, which is four times faster than conventional NAND Flash memory, and a 'write' speed of 10 MByte/s, which is more than 46 times faster than multi-level-cell NOR Flash memory. The fast read and write speeds can provide significant performance enhancements in boot-time and application launch-time in mobile handsets and NV-Cache (Non-Volatile Cache) for PC applications.
