Samsung Patents Bezel-less, Notch-free Smartphone Design
Samsung has filed a patent with the US Patent and Trademark Office showing a new Galaxy concept design that has no bezels on the bottom and sides of the phone, and slims the top bezel down to thin, notch-free bar.
The patent was filed in Sept. 25 2017 and appeared online in June 19 2018.
It probably shows a future Galaxy Note design, with a screen that follows the curved edges of the phone. But considering that with the Note 9 is expected to launch in August, this might not quite be the vision of the future we get this year.
As you can see, there no clear fingerprint sensor on the rear of the phone, and a headphone jack on the bottom of the device is also missing. The schemes hint to a design with a button-free, bezel-free, headphone jack-free phone that is all screen.
Interestingly, Samsung's plan seems to keep expanding the display halfway down the back. This rear display could allow the powerful main rear camera to be used for selfies, which eliminates the need for a space-consuming front camera or breakable pop-up cameras like the Vivo Nex and Oppo Find X.
Samsung has not provided any comment.
