SD Association Releases New App performance Class And Card Symbol

SD Association Releases New App performance Class And Card Symbol

Smartphones Nov 28,2016 0

Mobile phones and mobile computing users can choose the right SD memory card to run applications on mobile devices at optimal performance levels with the latest SD Specification 5.1.

With the expanded usage of SD memory cards for storing applications and application data, there is a need for a combination of random and sequential performance levels. This demand becomes even stronger with the introduction of AndroidÂ’s Adopted Storage Device capability.

Released by the SD Association, the SD Specification 5.1 establishes the new Application Performance Class1 (A1) to meet technical and market requirements to both run and store applications on SD memory cards while still providing storage of pictures, videos, music, documents other data.

The App Performance Class assures minimum random and sequential performance speeds. The App Performance symbol lets manufactures communicate device requirements and helps their customers choose the right card for their device at the point-of-sale.

This table describes the Application Performance Class 1 (A1) specification and the minimum random read performance inputs/outputs per second (IOPS), minimum random write performance (IOPS) and the minimum sustained sequential performance (MB/s) of the corresponding SDHC/SDXC Memory Cards under the conditions defined in Part 1 Physical specification in Ver 5.1.
