Seagate Introduces 5TB Mobile Drive, New ClusterStor System For HPC Applications
Seagate is introducing the ClusterStor 300N storage system with Nytro Intelligent I/O Manager and a flash cache accelerator for high-performance computing (HPC), along with the Backup Plus Portable 5TB drive. Powered by the software-based Nytro Intelligent I/O Manager, the ClusterStor 300N runs multiple mixed workloads simultaneously on the same storage platform, eliminating performance bottlenecks that can result when data demands outpace what the existing storage architecture can accommodate. It’s suitable for the kinds of mixed and unpredictable workloads found in many of today’s most demanding, data-intensive HPC applications like seismic processing, machine learning, geospatial intelligence and fluid dynamics.
The Nytro Intelligent I/O Manager software delivers up to 1,000 percent input/output workload acceleration over traditional HPC storage systems, according to Seagate.
The ClusterStor 300N is architected specifically as a common platform for both the ClusterStor, Lustre and IBM Spectrum Scale storage systems as the L300N and G300N, respectively.
The 300N will be widely available in January 2017.
For consumers, Seagate is launching the Backup Plus Portable 5TB drive-the largest capacity mobile drive on the market. This new storage solution is made possible thanks to Seagate’s new BarraCuda internal drive, featuring its 2.5-inch 1.25TB platter technology announced last month.
The Backup Plus 5TB drive will be the first device to ship with the new BarraCuda 5TB drive and offers customizable backup options with Seagate Dashboard software for local, mobile, cloud and social media backup. It is compatible with
both PC and Mac computers by installing the NTFS driver for Mac.
The USB 3.0 drive features a 20.5mm form factor with aluminum cover.
The Seagate Backup Plus Portable 5TB drive will be available this month for an MSRP of $189.99 in black, silver, red and blue color options.
