Sony Launches On Demand 3D Streaming Service, New 3D, BDXL Blu-Ray Recorders

Sony today announced the launch of "3D Experience", a new, free of charge on-demand streaming service offering a range of promotional video clips and trial content in 3D. The company also announced two new entry level Blu-Ray recorders for the Japanese market. The 3D streaming service will be available beginning today to owners of 3D capable Sony BRAVIA LCD TVs immediately after purchase and without registration. Sony also plans to expand it to Blu-ray players and Blu-ray Disc Home Theater Systems. It will initially launch in five countries: the U.S., Canada, U.K., Germany and France.

"3D Experience" will provide instant access to 3D clips and trial content from a wide variety of genres, including movies, music, sports, and documentaries, with about 30 titles available at launch. Content available via this service will include highlights of "Wimbledon 2011," movie trailers from releases such as "Green Hornet" and "Monster House" in 3D, promotional clips of original 3D programming from 3net (the U.S. 3D television network from Sony, Discovery and IMAX) and 3D promotional music video clips. Highlights of the "FIFA 2011 Women's World Cup Germany" will be also available in the U.S.

Sony also today introduced two new entry level Blu-ray disc recorders for the Japanese market, the BDZ-AT350S and the BDZ-AT750W.

Both models features Sony's CREAS 4 Image engine processor for sharper HD Videos as well as featuring 500GB of internal HDD, support 3D and 60p HD Video as well as recording on BDXL media. The recorders are also compatible with AVCHD 3D/Progressive 3D Cameras from Sony (see AVCHD Ver.2.0), allowing users to backup their 1080p 3D movies on a Blu-Ray discs of the recorders' internal HDDs by just pressing a dedicated button.



The BDZ-AT350S is equipped with a single Digital TV Tuner while the BDZ-AT750W offers two tuners.

Both models have the same I/O ports: HDMI (supports 1080 60p/24p), D4, composite video S, stereo audio, optical digital audio (outputs) and composite video USB and ethernet ports (inputs).

The recoders are set to be available in Japan early August for about 65,000 ($823 - BDZ-AT350S) and 85,000 Yen ($1,076 - BDZ-AT750W).
