Systems Doubles Top Capacity of 2.5" IDE Fast Flash Disk (FFD)
M-Systems Flash Disk Pioneers Ltd announced the availability of higher capacities and smaller sized packages for its Fast Flash Disk (FFD) IDE line of products.
Within its standard 2.5" form factor, M-Systems' FFD IDE is now available in capacities up to 4.1 Gigabytes (4096MB) in a standard package height of 17mm. In slimmer cases of 12mm and 8mm heights, the FFD IDE is available in a maximum capacity of 2.3GB (2304 Mbytes) and 1.0GB (1024 Mbytes), respectively.
"These higher capacities and slimmer packages allow M-Systems' FFD IDE products to fit into new applications with limited space, common today within telecommunications and airborne systems," said Ofer Tsur, M-Systems' FFD marketing director.
Like other members of M-Systems' Fast Flash Disk (FFD) product family, the FFD 2.5" IDE is a state-of-the-art solid-state disk based on flash technology. The 2.5" IDE FFD is fully compatible with the ATA-III interface and therefore with existing systems. It can be used as a drop-in replacement for standard 2.5" IDE magnetic disk drives.
With its unique design and M-Systems' True Flash File System (TrueFFS) technology, the 2.5" IDE FFD has a performance advantage over other solutions by eliminating seek time, latency and other electro-mechanical delays inherent in conventional disk drives. TrueFFS? with its dynamic wear leveling algorithm, provides enhanced endurance and maximum data integrity that contributes to FFD's outstanding performance.
The 2.5" IDE FFD is a high-capacity flash disk available in a variety of sizes ranging from 64MB to 4,096MB. The FFD IDE Supports DMA (Direct Memory Access) 0-2 and PIO (Programmed Input/Output) 0-4 transfer modes with a burst read/write rate of 16.7MB per second, a sustained read rate of up to 10.9MB per second and a write rate of up to 5.1MB per second. With its special hardware and software, the FFD IDE provides data reliability measured in a mean time between failures (MTBF) of millions of hours. It operates dependably within adverse environments such as unstable power, extreme temperatures, shocks, vibrations and high altitude.
Designed for systems that require high reliability under harsh environmental conditions, it is perfect for telecommunications, point of sale (POS), factory automation, high-availability computing systems, military applications and airborne systems. In addition to FFD IDE, M-Systems offers other FFD solid-state flash disk products with SCSI interfaces in 2.5" and 3.5" form factors and also the newly released 3.5" Ultra-wide SCSI.
