Taiyo Yuden Factory Hit By Japan Earthquake
That's Fukushima Co., Ltd, Taiyo Yudens subsidiary company that produces optical recording media (CD-R, DVD-R, BD-R) has been damaged by the recent earthquake in Japan.
According to the company, building infrastructures as well as equipment have been damaged, forcing the disc manufacturing facility out of operation. Continuous outage of electricity and gas supply in the facility makes operations even harder to resume, the company said.
Previously, Taiyo Yuden had said that its operations in Japan at its production plants had been temporarily stopped but soon after confirming the safety, they had been resumed. The company had also assured that there would be no major effects on its disc shipments.
However, Tokyo Electric Power Company has initiated planned power outages in their service areas, delaying the restoration and performance of Taiyo Yuden's production plant.
