CMC Magnetics Acquires Optical Disc Assets From Taiyo Yuden
Taiwanese optical disc maker CMC Magnetics has licenced technologies, patents, media IDs and trademarks previously owned by Taiyo Yuden, after the latter quit the development and manufacturing of CD-R, DVD-R and DVD+R blank optical discs.
CMC hopes that the licensing would help the company produce high-performance and high-reliability optical discs for professional use, with the production to begin at the end of 2015.
Last June, Taiyo Yuden announced that it and its wholly owned subsidiary Victor Advanced Media will entirely stop production and marketing of recording media products in December 2015.
