TEAC announces DVD recording and editing with the TEAC DV-W50E

TEAC announces DVD recording and editing with the TEAC DV-W50E

General Interest Dec 12,2002 0

With the new TEAC DV-W50E (4x DVD-R, 2x DVD-RW, 16x CD-R and 8x CD-RW), recording DVDs on the PC is now quicker and easier than ever. TEAC brings the new burner to the market together with the award-winning Studio software, version 8 from Pinnacle, which has comprehensive video editing and enhanced publishing functions. Creating diapresentations and holiday or company DVDs is consequently made significantly easier. The TEAC DV-W50E burns DVD-Rs at 4x speed and DVD-RWs at 2x speed. CD-Rs are burnt at 16x speed, CD-RWs at 8x speed. In addition to current CD and CD-R/RW formats, the recorder supports DVD-ROM and DVD-Video (single + dual layer) as well as DVD-R and DVD-RW. According to the producers, transfer rates of up to 5.54 MB/s are reached in the DVD-R mode, 2.77 MB/s in DVD-RW mode, 2.4 MB/s in CD-R and 1.2 MB/s in the CD-RW mode. Access times are 140 ms in the DVD-ROM mode and 130 ms with CD-ROMs.

The ATAPI/IDE drive has a 2 MB buffer memory and can be installed horizontally or vertically in the computer.

TEAC has integrated “Regional Playback Control” (RPC, phase II mode) in the disk drive's firmware. Changes to the DVD country codes can be made up to 5 times. The fifth setting is then permanent. The following minimum requirements must be met for the PC-side disk drive operation: Pentium II 500 MHz, 128 MB RAM, Windows 98, 2000, ME, NT or XP, 10 GB free hard disk storage space and a 24 bit color display with a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution.

Pinnacle Studio Version 8

TEAC brings the DVD burner to the market with the “Studio” software from Pinnacle (version 8). The software, which has received numerous accreditations from various specialist magazines, is equipped with a simple user interface for access to professional features such as, fast motion facility, slow motion and SmartSound. Pinnacle’s Studio also provides over 100 special tools for video processing, such as super imposing with impressive 3D effects, for example. Color correction functions and refined contrast and brightness controls are also integrated.

Videos can be easily transferred to the PC. The material is transferred from the camcorder to the PC hard disk – e.g. via USB or firewall interface – and digitalized. DV, Digital8 and MicroMV camcorders or video recorders with DV connection are input formats. The video transfer from DirectShow compatible equipment such as TV-Tuner, USB recording devices or even USB video cameras and web cams is also possible.

Files with the following formats can be imported and processed: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVI, WAV, MP3 and BMP, JPG, PCT, TGA, TIF and WMF in the graphic area. If the video has been processed on the PC and edited as desired with special effects, the film can then be burned with the TEAC DV-W50E as Video CD (VCD) or Super Video CD (SVCD) on CD-R or CD-RW media, or as DVD on the appropriate DVD-R and DVD-RW media. The DVD-R/RW is available in kit form for 349 Euro. (As of: Dec. 02/ Jan. 03).

The Studio software from Pinnacle requires Windows 98SE, Millennium, 2000 or XP as operating system. A DirectDraw compatible sound and graphic card and at least 300 MB free storage space for the software installation is also required, as is a minimum hard disk access speed of 4 MB/sec. Pinnacle additionally advises 256 MB RAM and an Intel Pentium or AMD Athlon processor with a clock frequency of at least 500 MHz.
