TOSHIBA SD-R5272 DVD±RW recorder - Page 4
DVD reading tests
- Single Layer DVD-ROM (Click for CDSpeed results)
The Toshiba drive's reading speed is quite close to that of the other two drives, being slightly faster in all cases.
The seek times are very good, especially when compared to the other two drives.
- Dual Layer PTP DVD-ROM (Click for CDSpeed results)
The two layers of a PTP DVD-ROM disc are read sequentially with the drive starting the read process from the inner tracks on the disc, which is the beginning of each layer, and progressing outwards towards to the outer tracks for each layer.
Again, the Toshiba drive's reading speed with dual layer DVD is very good.
The seek times were once again the best among the three drives although the full seek is a little slow.
- Dual Layer OTP DVD-ROM
The
first layer of an OTP dual layer DVD-ROM is read exactly the same way as the
first layer of the PTP disc we tested previously. The difference here is the
reading strategy
of the disc's second layer. The beginning of the second layer is located
in the outer part of the disc, so the drive starts reading from the outer tracks
inwards towards the inner tracks of the disc.
As can been seen in the following screenshot, the OTP dual layer DVD test disc produced similar speeds as with PTP media. The seek times are also around the same levels.
- DVD Ripping Tests
We measured the DVD-Video ripping speed of the Toshiba using the latest version of DVD Decrypter using a pressed DVD-Video movie.
The Toshiba drive was the fastest. The reported average transfer rate of 8181 kb/s is a very good.
- DVD Recordable / Rewritable reading Tests
The chart below shows the Nero CDSpeed average reading speed results with the following media:
Very good performance with the highest speed for all formats. It appears to be a very fast reader, especially with DVD±R media, since it supports the P-CAV strategy for the 8x read, rather that the usual 8x CAV apearing in other burners. In case of DVD±RW, the 6x P-CAV offers competitive average read speed.
-DVD-RAM
Toshiba
supports reading of DVD-RAM media. The specifications for the drive are
confirmed here by Nero CDSpeed. After the end of the test, the software
reports that the drive read the DVD-RAM under CLV mode. The disc we used for
this test is a Maxell 3x DVD-RAM Ver2.1.
The disc was read at 2x CLV. However, the full seek time result is high.
