YouTube Is Shutting Down, Google Search Adds Smell Functionality And Nokia Is Offering First Lumia Oven

Enterprise & IT Apr 1,2013 0

Youtube on Sunday announced the end of the video-sharing website, Google added a a new "smell" button to the search engine and Nokia released the first touch-screen microwave oven. A video announced on sunday the end of the Youtube video-sharing website and the launch of a contest to find the best home video on the Internet.

"We are so close to the end. Tonight at midnight, YouTube.com will no longer be accepting entries", Tom Liston, communications director at YouTube, said in a video released, not surprisingly, just before April Fools' Day. "After eight amazing years, it's finally time to review everything that has been uploaded to our site and begin the process of selecting a winner."

Google's product manager Jon Wooly on Sunday also said in a newly posted video announcing the new new "smell" button on Google search , which allows users to get a whiff of whatever they're seeking out.

"Google Search is incredibly powerful, and you can search for text across the Internet, most of human knowledge, images, books, videos, but we realized there was an important part of the search experience we'd overlooked," product manager Jon Wooly says in a newly posted video announcing the new feature.

As explained in the video "By intersecting photons with infrasound waves, Google Nose Beta temporary aligns molecules to emulate a particular scent."

Google was also active during the weekend announcing an eight-bit version of Google Maps designed for the original Nintendo; Gmail Tap, which utilizes Morse Code; Google Voice for Pets, which allows animals to type and send text messages; a new Treasure Hunting mode in Google Maps; and Click-to-Teleport, a Chrome feature that lets users teleport to a business location from a search ad.

Finally Nokia announced a significant new extension to Nokia?s product offering with the Nokia 5AM-TH1N6 Constellation, a touch-screen microwave oven. The Constellation sets itself apart with a superfast, water-cooled 8-core high-voltage transformer, which brings a combined performance of 5,000 watts to end-users, letting them heat up turnkey meal solutions within seconds.

"Nokia has a proven track record and extensive IPR in working with microwave radios, so for us this was a logical next step. We can attack our competition in their core business," says Olavi Huhtikuu, Nokia?s director of household innovation.

"That?s why we developed the highly innovative 5AM-TH1N6 Constellation, which will revolutionize everything from single households to canteen kitchen"

The new Nokia 5AM-TH1N6 has even more innovative features. The device comes with the latest eye-tracking technology, which stops the food from rotating when you look at it, and it automatically adjusts the temperature depending on how hungry you look.

In addition, the device has a highly sensitive touch display which can be operated with oven mitts, enabling you to conveniently select one of 25 different performance levels in order to heat up the 40-litre cooking chamber. Reflecting Nokia's strong design heritage, the device comes in a variety of colors including blue cheese cyan, lemon yellow and liquorice black.

The product also comes with a selection of apps, sensors and a high-resolution PureFood camera that automatically shares pictures of ready meals with friends and family via social networks.

Nokia said the Constellation would begin shipping in Q2 at a suggested retail price of €399 before taxes or subsidies.

Happy April's Fool day!
