Zoran and Kodak Team Up to Deliver Digital Photography on DVD Players

Zoran and Kodak Team Up to Deliver Digital Photography on DVD Players

Optical Storage Oct 4,2001 0

Zoran is teaming with Kodak to accelerate the acceptance of digital photography applications on DVD players worldwide. Zoran will deliver PictureCD support to DVD player manufacturers using Zoran's Vaddis DVD processors. Kodak will promote the benefits of PictureCD digital photo viewing, sharing, and printing applications to consumers. In another move to speed consumer use of the DVD player to view digital photographs, Zoran and Kodak also announced today that two Kodak EasyShare digital cameras will feature Zoran's COACH (Camera-On-A-CHip) processor. Both new cameras have secure digital memory card expansion slots for quickly moving photos from the camera onto the DVD player for TV viewing. (See related news release dated today.)

Moving digital photography to the television via the DVD player benefits the consumer because it is quicker and easier than viewing photos on a PC. By supporting PictureCD, Zoran enables OEM customers to build DVD players for consumers to view and share PictureCD photographs on their televisions. By simply inserting a PictureCD into the DVD player, consumers can browse and view their photographs. In the future, with an Internet connected (iDVD) player and an online service such as Kodak's Ofoto, a consumer will be able to share their photographs with distant relatives and choose to have prints mailed to them.

``Zoran's track record and resulting expertise in both the DVD and Digital Camera markets coupled with the well-known Kodak brand means our partnership can deliver this exciting new technology quickly. Consumers should be able to buy Zoran powered DVD players with Kodak's Picture CD logo and capability,'' said Maxime Elbaz, worldwide business development manager, Consumer Digital Products & Services for Kodak.

``Zoran, as a leading supplier of DVD and Digital Camera processors, is able to support the rapid addition of new applications to both platforms thanks to the flexible architecture and programmability of both our Vaddis and COACH processors,'' said Michael L. Wood, vice president and general manager, Zoran's Home Entertainment Division. ``As a pioneer in both industries, our focus has been to develop the best technologies for each. Now that these markets are starting to converge, Zoran is pleased to be able to support Kodak in allowing consumers to use their DVD players to view their digital photos.''
