Samsung Rolls Out New Monitors
Samsung announced new plasma and LCD monitors professional A/V applications, as well as new large-screen LCD monitors for computer users.
Plasma Monitors For PRO A/V And Commercial Applications
The Korean manufacturer announced three new additions to its family of high-end plasma displays designed for the professional and commercial marketplace. The new plasma lineup includes the 42" high-definition PPM42M5H, the 42" standard-definition PPM42M5S and the 50" PPM50M5H. All new plasma monitors are currently shipping.
The new plasma monitors offer a high 10,000:1 contrast ratio and 1,100 cd/m² brightness level. The high 10,000:1 contrast ratio has been achieved by utilizing Samsung's octal plasma pixel structure that increases the electrical separation between the pixels. Samsung has also chosen a high-Xenon gas, which is up to 50% more efficient in generating brightness.
The 42" PPM42M5H features a 1024 x 768 resolution and mathces the 720p HDTV format without the need for processing. The standard-definition 42" PPM42M5S is a more economical display solution incorporating a 852 x 480 resolution. The 50" PPM50M5H could be used in presentations and sports a 1366 x 768 resolution.
Each display device includes inputs for composite video, component video that offers 480i/p, 720p and 1080i viewing, S-Video for gaming applications, DVI for digital video sources and an RGB input for use with a PC.
LCD Monitors For The Professional Marketplace
Samsung's latest family of LCDs include the network enabled 46-inch SyncMaster 460pn ($6,999 estimated street price) and the 40-inch SyncMaster 400pn ($5,299) as well as the new large-screen 46-inch SyncMaster 460p ($6,749) and 40-inch SyncMaster 400p ($4,999). All displays are currently shipping.
These monitors are designed for use in commercial and corporate applications.
Samsung's SyncMaster 460pn and SyncMaster 400pn offer an Ethernet connection and Samsung's MagicNet technology, which allows users to send content to any MagicNet display on a network from a server.
Samsung is also unveiling its SyncMaster 460p and SyncMaster 400p for those who don't need network-related applications.
The displays offers a native resolution 1366 x 768, a wide 170 horizontal and vertical viewing angle, a brightness of 500cd/m2 and an 800:1 contrast ratio.
All four new SyncMaster LCD monitors offer a wide variety of interfaces including composite video, S-video, component video for DVD and HDTV at 480i/p, 720p and 1080i, and RGB analog and digital interface for the PC.
21 And 24 Large-Screen LCD Monitors for Computers
The SyncMaster 214T ($859 Estimated Street Price) and SyncMaster 244T ($1,699 Estimated Street Price) offer corporate and home users a 21.3-inch and 24-inch viewing area respectively. Both displays are currently shipping in the US.
The displays include Samsung's MagicTune, MagicBright, MagicColor, MagicContrast, MagicSpeed and MagicRotation technologies; analog and digital inputs and slim narrow bezel design.
The SyncMaster 214T features a 1600 x 1200 maximum resolution, a 900:1 contrast ratio and 178-degree viewing angle. The SyncMaster 244T offers a 1920 x 1200 maximum resolution, a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a 178-degree viewing angle. The 244T also includes a USB hub with one upstream and two downstream ports. Both displays utilize Samsung's Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA). PVA is the latest technology advancement in liquid crystal cell structure for improved viewing.
The SyncMaster 214T and SyncMaster 244T also incorporate Picture-In-Picture and Picture-By-Picture capabilities, allowing users to view two sources of video at the same time. The 214T features composite and S-Video. In addition, the 244T offers a component video input for an improved level of video quality. The 244T supports resolutions including 480p, 720p and 1080i/p.
The SyncMaster 214T sports an eight-millisecond response time and the SyncMaster 244T offers a 10-milliseond response time.
