New Medium Enterprises and Plasmon OMS S.A.R.L. announced today their aggreement to become partners in Mastering and Stamping the newly introduced Versatile Multilayer Disc (VMD). Plasmon OMS in Caen, France is one of the largest manufacturing and sales centers for all commercial mastering and stamping activities. These include services for prerecorded VMD, DVD and any recordable format (CD-R, DVD-R, CD- RW, DVD-RW, and DVD-Ram).

NME has developed Versatile Multilayer Disc (VMD), an optical disc that enables storage to be realized at high price-to-performance levels. The company provides a low-cost High Definition solution utilizing today's red laser DVD Technology and its industrial infrastructure. The VMD platform offers a 1920X1080i/p High Definition up to 40 Mb/s bitrate playback using its 20 GB - 40 GB red laser optical discs. VMD players & burners, stand alone and computer embedded are inherently backward compatible with DVD and CD.

NME and Plasmon OMS have already been working together for a number of years during the early stages of VMD Research & Development.

The partnership is expected to include promotional activites for the VMD format, developing of a faster Master/Stamper turnaround time and flexibility in the Master/Stamper capacity as demand is currently growing.

New Medium Enterprises showcased in the U.S the first high definition movie on its 20GB and 40GB Versatile MultiLayer Disc last year. In addition, VMD was recently demonstrated to enthusiastic groups of industry leaders in several countries and at CeBit in Hannover, Germany.
