OPENTECH UTILIZES BUILT-IN SEAGATE HARD DRIVE IN ITS PERSONAL VIDEO RECORDERS

Enterprise & IT Jan 9,2003 0

Seagate Technology announced today that OpenTech, one of Korea's leading Set-Top Box manufacturers, has selected Seagate consumer electronics (CE) disc drives for its first consumer hard disc-based Personal Video Recorder (PVR). The built-in Seagate hard drive provides the capacity and performance that enables advanced features such as customized programming, simultaneous video streaming, fast-forward, rewind, record, store and playback TV entertainment, and Internet access to video and audio broadcasting, gaming and email. "The integration of a hard drive into our PVRs is a first for OpenTech, and we demand the best storage technology available," said SaeJin Han, general manager of Procurement at OpenTech. "We are well aware that as the industry leader in hard drive technology, Seagate has helped many CE manufacturers successfully design and integrate storage technology in their CE products. With Seagate expertise in the CE market, it's natural for us to choose Seagate to provide the storage technology that drives our best-in-class consumer devices."

"Seagate's CE drive has been recognized as the most preferred drive in the consumer electronics space," said Teh Ban Seng, Seagate vice president and managing director of Asia Sales and Marketing. "Seagate is pleased to help OpenTech integrate our hard drive into their innovative storage-driven consumer products. As new applications evolve, Seagate will continue to help CE manufacturers implement the right storage technologies for their new devices." Featuring the Company's exclusive "sound barrier technology" (SBT), Seagate products are the world's quietest hard drives for mainstream desktop computers and Personal Video Recorders. Seagate's disc drives offer best-in-class reliability for PC and CE applications, and ship with Seagate's exclusive 3D Defense System(tm) to lead the industry in ruggedness and data protection.
