Microsoft Security Essentials Beta Announced
Microsoft today released a beta version of the Microsoft Security Essentials (formerly known as Microsoft Morro) anti-malware software.
The free anti-malware software runs on 32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2 and higher, and on modern consumer form-factors such as netbooks.
Microsoft Security Essentials Beta provides protection against viruses and spyware, including Trojans, worms and other malicious software.
Updates and upgrades are automatic. It's easy to tell if you're protected ? when the Security Essentials icon is green, your status is good. Security Essentials runs quietly in the background, only alerting you if there's something you need to do.
This beta is available only to customers in the United States, Israel (English only), People's Republic of China (Simplified Chinese only) and Brazil (Brazilian Portuguese only). For additional information visit http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials
Windows 7 RC downloads will end August 15th
In related news, Microsoft announced that its RC download program closes August 15. After that, you won?t be able to get the download, but you can still install the RC and get a key if you need one. (see Microsoft's download page)
All those who are still using Windows 7 Beta should better move to the RC and fast. Starting July 1st, the Beta will start to reboot every 2 hrs and expire Aug 1st, Microsfot addeed.
